Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo is a song that is meant for heartbreak. You can be in a healthy relationship and still feel hurt. It swept the charts on January 8, 2021. It broke many records, including the Spotify’s record for the most single-day streams for a non-holiday song and the biggest first-week for a song on Spotify and Amazon Music. It was also on the Billboard Hot 100 as one of the most powerful number-one hits in history.
When I think about this song, I think about my most recent relationship, it ended two months before the song was released. When I first heard it, so many emotions rose to the surface. I was back in the same spot I was when my relationship ended, heart broken. This song has so much meaning behind it, the lyrics are so powerful and make you feel as if you are in that position of a loss.
Songs that are on that level or remind me of that same feeling are The Good Side- Troy Sivan, All I Want- Kodaline, you were good to me- Jeremy Zucker/ Chelsea Cutler. Each of these songs have the same heart break feel as Drivers License.
