I grew up listening to rock music. My mother loves it and so do my brother and I. Her love for music seemed to pass down to my brother and me. I am gonna talk about the rock albums that I grew up listening to.
Riot - Paramore
I was listening to this album at such a young age, I was singing Misery Business at the age of 7. My favorite songs off of this album are crushcrushcrush, For A Pessimist, I’m Pretty Optimistic, and That’s What You Get. These songs are upbeat and ones you can belt out in the car or anywhere. Hayley Williams has created a name for herself outside of the band now. She has a company called GoodDyeYoung. It is a hair color company. Very on-brand for her as she loves changing her hair color. She has also recently put out music on her own which is good as well. It is a very different sound than her Paramore stuff which I think is cool as well.
Songs About Jane - Maroon 5
This album is fried into my brain so well, I know the order of songs. Old Maroon 5 is such a fun listen. ’s nostalgic feel, sound, and memories the songs carry are fun to relive. My favorite songs off of the album are Shiver, Not Coming Home, and Harder To Breathe. I like Shiver for its guitar line. It is super groovy as well as the bass line. His voice is cool in this song as well. He goes up in his head voice and adds a higher melody line. Harder To Breathe is a filler song for their album. It is about the label they were currently signed with pushing them to finish the album. I like to listen to it while I’m driving or working out to keep me pumped or awake. Not Coming Home is a cool song. It starts with a synthesizer and a crowd clapping and whistling, then it immediately goes into a guitar solo accompanied by a piano, drums, and a bass. It is a song about a relationship that has ended and he is teasing her by saying how does it feel to be treated the same way you treated me, I’m done with this relationship, I’m not coming home.
Consent to Treatment - Blue October
This band is one of the bands I listened to every single song they put out due to my mom being overly obsessed. They are a great band, do not get me wrong! The lead singer writes most of the music about his life and his mental health. My favorite songs are Breakfast After Ten, Amnesia, Drop. The other songs on the album are great as well. A lot of this album is about him being in the mental hospital. It is a very different sound throughout the album, but it also sounds different from their newer stuff. The new music is a lot happier.
