I would have to say I predominately listen to R&B. I am constantly looking for new music and most of what I find is R&B. Over the years I have dug deep in to about 30 artists and I am gonna talk about a couple as well as show you my favorite albums of theirs.
The first person I chose is Frank Ocean, He was my most listened to artist in the year of 2020. Yes, I went through it… who didn’t! Other than the emotion behind his music, the music behind it is so diverse. I have never heard music like his.
My favorite album of his currently is blond. It is very emotional but I love it. I love connecting with what im feeling. Some of my favorite songs off of this album are Solo, Self Control, Godspeed, and Nights.
The next person I chose was H.E.R. She is a bad a$* female rapper that is very musically inclined. She shreds on the guitar and actually played and sang “America the Beautiful” at Super Bowl LV. Her music is so soft. But it has a rock R&B feel.
My favorite album of H.E.R has got to be “I Used To Know Her” It is so good! Each song is a different story to me but they all fit together. My favorite songs of the album are Hard Place, As I Am, and also Carried Away.
SZA is another one of my all time favorite artists. A lot of people say that they don’t like her because they can’t understand her, but I can! Her most recently popular songs; Good Days and Hit Different were so popular. Everytime I scrolled through Tik Tok, I see multiple, sometimes in a row videos playing both songs. People created scenarios and or make up dances to the songs, it’s very creative.
My favorite album is ctrl. I love every single song on that album. There was discussion on social media about how they wish they could go back to the time when they first heard the album and I couldn’t agree more with them. It’s so good.
My favorite songs on it are Broken Clocks, Anything, Supermodel, and 20 Something.
Some other artists that weren’t mentioned but I love are Giveon, Jazmine Sullivan, Jhenè Aiko, Chloe x Halle, Usher, Mary J. Blige, and Destiny’s Child.
